The retail store will be closing on July 23, 2011. The business will continue as a website and an Etsy website will be developed further. The sales are: 25% off all 1 yard or more cuts of fabric or 30% off when you finish the bolt. 25% off all yarn (Excludes Kraemer Yarns), and 25% off all notions and books.

These 2 designs are by Deborah D. Mote, of Middleburg, Pa. The first is a 17″ square blessing and the 2nd one is a 16″ X 26″ designed from a photogragh of her cat next to an amaryllis bulb in her window.

The barn wood frames are done by my brother.

These shawl pins and knitting needles are made here in the US. These hand finished items are made in Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts. The items are made with loving care by the ARC’S, which provide care, education, and work opportunities for the physically and mentally challenged aduts in their communities.

These are very artistic items, yet very useful. The shawl pins are a great buy at $8.75 and a great fashion accessory.

Kraemer Yarn, Perfection, Baby set

Kraemer's Perfection Yarn baby set

The baby set is made from Kraemer’s DK weight yarn, Perfection. The pattern for this baby set is found in the book, Baby “V”. This is a great pattern, made from the neck down with short rows forming the v-neck. The sweater is knitted with buttonholes on both sides which allows the knitter to add the buttons after the child’s birth.

: Fountain Hill Shawl

This shawl is a one skein project from Kraemer Fountain Hill yarn. Cost to make this shawl is $11.95 and finished is $67.95. The yarn is available here in the store in 9 different colors. A great project for learning how to do a drop stitch cob web design.

This baby set is made out of DK weight Perfection Yarn. This pattern is founf in the book: Baby “V” and is the basic sweater with many other styles available. A great pattern to learn about short rows. For those of you that don’t know the sex of the next special baby arriving, it is knit with buttonholes on both sides so you can add the buttons at the last minute-great gift set

Chester goes to nursery school

Chester, the French Angora Rabbit, had his first field trip today to visit a preschool. I think he enjoyed his day out as much as the children did.

The Sewing Shanty is now selling yarns made in the USA. I had the opportunity to tour the factory in Nazareth, Pa. The company was started in 1905 and they produce a full line of natural yarns in all weights. I really enjoy the yarn line, because many of the names are from local towns near where I grew up and went to nursing school. Not only do they have yarns, but they also carry rovings and yarn to dye. Their patterns are fabulous, and I hope to make many samples. If I don’t have the color or type of yarn, you can look at the color cards and order from them. I am looking forward to using the felting yarns, cottons, and rovings.

Paint the Valley Pink

The Sewing Shanty entered the “Paint the Valley Pink” advertising contest on October 4th with these window displays. The main theme was “Giving Hearts and Hands Think Pink” with a sub-theme of “Think Pink For Their Future”. Thru the end of this month, all breast and ovarian cancer items will be discounted 10 % when you mention this blog. All pink polar fleece, flannels, cottons, and yarns will be included in this sale.

Beavertown, Pa. Eva is well known for her weaving,

natural dying ,and designs. On display are shawls,

scarves, purses, and head wear. Spectacular hand

dyed silk , rayon, and hand woven chenille items are
